Why Locals Love Aux Vivres Plateau
Nestled along the vibrant Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montréal, Aux Vivres Plateau stands as a beloved haven for vegan cuisine enthusiasts and curious food lovers alike. As one of the city’s pioneering vegan restaurants, it has cultivated a reputation that spans decades—offering not just meals but nourishing experiences that celebrate plant-based living with both heart and flavor.
The culinary offerings here are thoughtfully crafted to delight all senses. The menu brims with creative dishes rooted in wholesome, fresh ingredients. Popular choices such as the hearty Thai and Japanese-inspired bowls are generously packed with an abundance of crisp vegetables, silky tofu, and tempeh. These bowls impress not only with their vibrant colors but also their nourishing balance, appealing to anyone seeking both health and satisfaction on their plate. The tempeh and tofu, while subtly seasoned to let the natural plant flavors shine, make each bite an exploration of texture and freshness.
For something delightfully indulgent yet vegan, the dessert section is sure to catch your eye. Whether it’s the rich walnut brownie that melts decadently in your mouth or the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that boast a perfect crumb, the sweet offerings are ideal for satisfying any craving. Additionally, new menu items such as crispy quesadillas filled with gooey vegan cheese add a playful twist to traditional flavors, while the Wrap César Buffalo—featuring crispy tofu and smoky coconut bacon enveloped in warm chapati bread—brings a bold, creamy, and spicy bite that truly stands out.
Dining at Aux Vivres Plateau is more than a meal; it's a welcoming, comfortable retreat where the ambiance complements the wholesome fare. The spacious indoor seating is perfect for a relaxed meal, whether you’re stopping for a casual lunch or lingering over dinner. Though service can lean towards a slower pace—testament perhaps to their dedication to cooking fresh and from scratch—the wait is rewarded with quality food and satisfying portions. Guests often appreciate the laid-back vibe and the terrace seating, although it can get warm on sunny days, offering a cozy alternative inside.
Longtime patrons and first-timers alike share a deep affection for Aux Vivres. Many sing praises for its generous portions, consistent quality, and the nostalgic comfort it provides. Having been part of Montréal’s plant-based dining scene for over 25 years, it remains a treasured institution for locals and visitors craving nourishing vegan cuisine that doesn’t compromise on taste or atmosphere.
Whether you’re a committed vegan, a health-conscious diner, or an adventurous foodie, Aux Vivres Plateau promises a vibrant, flavorsome journey into the rich possibilities of plant-based dining—each visit leaving you feeling both well-fed and well-cared-for.

The bowls are very delicious. Both the Thai bowl and Japanese inspired ones were great. I love the tempeh and tofu, but neither are super flavourful. The bowls are huge and packed with so many different veggies. They feel very nourishing lol. The bowls are a great gluten free option. It’s not very fast. We waited over 20 minutes to order and another 20 for food. I also wish the BLT had some form of protein instead of coconut to replace the bacon.

I used to eat at Aux Vivre as a grad student and it was inte of my FAVORITE places. This was a few years ago and I was always so grateful for all the vegan options here. The menu is large, the portions are generous & the dishes are yummy. Always loved to get a dessert here as well. I visited Montreal after a long time and it was so sweet to h eat here again. The food tastes the same as I remember and it brought back a lot of nice memories Brought my husband here & we got the Bombay bowl & the thali. Both were yummy. The raspberry leaf tea was delicious & I always appreciate the choices of kombucha they have available. I am glad they're still going strong and hope they continue to do so for a long time!

The original vegan restaurant in Montreal, Aux Vivres is great restaurant along the atmospheric Saint Laurent Blvd. They have a fair sized indoor seating area. You can do take-away orders as well. Opening hours are 11am to 10pm daily. We ate here during a recent visit to Montreal while exploring the Mile End and Little Portugal areas of the city. The Deluxe and Mumbai bowls ordered on the day were great. Both were generous portions, presentable. Ingredient combinations sensible, dishes executed very well in the kitchen and importantly tasted delicious. Really enjoyed everything about our meal at Aux Vivres and would gladly eat here again in the future.

Very healthy and fresh bowl brimming with veg and tofu - was a detox of sorts after some indulgent other meals and desserts on a holiday. Visited on a weekday lunchtime- the terrace out front was too hot for our taste, but inside was cool and plenty of seating.

Dahl soup, great flavor, thick and hearty. Thumbs up Okonomiyaki bowl, eating healthy can be fun and delicious. Great quality and variety of ingredients. Definitely would get again. Really like the tofu shiitake patty. Saw at least two other tables order it, so I did right Hibiscus lemonade, really tart Chocolate banana pie bucket not the set tooth spot on recommendation of the waitress. Great place and quiet for late lunch. I could have eaten here every day of the trip given the variety and brunch everyday till 4pm! Service friendly and efficient. Nice send of meal as I head home 3k miles away

A classic! Aux Vivres is the original vegan restaurant in Montréal. Great patio, lots of indoor seating. The wraps on homemade roti are huge! (And delicious)

Loved this spot! I absolutely enjoyed every single dish we ordered. Came here twice during my visit to Montréal. The Bombay Banana Smoothie is delicious! The flavors were very alive, some of the most flavorful vegan food I’ve ever had. The pricing is not bad at all, especially considering the portions & great service. Can’t wait to return here!
